Le Tour de Force?

U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi raced around Europe late this summer to gauge EU views on the global U.S.-China rivalry.

Of particular interest to both was the use of Chinese company Huawei’s 5G network equipment in Europe.

Pompeo’s Clean Network Plan seeks commitment to exclude 5G equipment from “unsafe suppliers”, as he alleges Huawei is. Wang, however, hopes to keep the EU open to Chinese business.

This month’s B|Visual infographic shows that despite the visitors’ best efforts to force the EU to choose its path, most European countries have set their own policies for now.
